Premium Water Brand Identity & Packaging for Hospitality
Hospitality is a business of details. The chairs, the lighting, the music, the weight of the cutlery. Restaurants spend months getting every one of them right.
Then a bottle of water lands on the table.
Water is the first thing served and the last thing cleared. It sits in the guest's eyeline for the entire meal. It ends up in photos nobody meant to take. And in most rooms, it's the least considered object on the table: a generic plastic bottle undoing everything around it.
That's the gap Aethra exists to close. It's premium canned water sourced from the Himalayas, built for cafés, restaurants and boutique hotels, and designed the way F&B teams actually work.
We built the brand end to end: brand identity, logo, colour, typography and patterns, then the packaging (both Aethra's own cans and a co-branding system for partner venues), and finally coasters, business cards, t-shirts and brand collaterals, all held together by a full brand manual.

Brand Identity: A Logo, Palette and Type Built for the Table
Aethra chose aluminium for the floor team, not for the trend. It chills faster than glass, moves quicker across a busy pass, stacks tighter, blocks light, and is fully recyclable. It works harder for the floor team, and it happens to be better for the planet too. That decision shaped every design choice we made.
A wordmark with a secret. We drew the Aethra logo in high-contrast serif letterforms and nested a single water droplet inside the initial A, a quiet detail you notice the second time you look. From it we built a family of marks: the full wordmark with the tagline, a standalone droplet "A" monogram, and an organic seal for can rims, stamps and social icons. On cans and merchandise, a hard minimum size protects the fine serifs, so the craft survives at table distance.
A palette that belongs in a dining room. Deep midnight blue (#081B2E), soft ivory (#F8F7F0), white and black. There's no aqua and no "splash" blue. These are the colours of linen, ink and evening light, chosen to sit comfortably beside a restaurant's interiors, not compete with them.
Typography with two registers. Roxborough CF carries the logo and headlines with classical, editorial elegance. Glacial Indifference sets the tagline with airy, modern calm, and Montserrat handles the small print on the back of the can.

Can Design: A Pattern That Never Ends
A wave that wraps the whole can. We drew a fine, continuous contour-line pattern, like slow mountain streams, that loops all the way around the can with no start and no finish. Wherever you turn it, the pattern keeps flowing. Finished with a 3D metallic texture, the lines catch the light and feel almost embossed, so the can rewards being picked up.
Solving the curve. We designed and tested two layouts specifically for the cylinder:
Option 1: centred and horizontal. AETHRA sits dead centre on the front face, the flattest part of the can as it faces the guest, so the wordmark never warps around the edge.
Option 2: vertical. AETHRA runs top to bottom along the can, so it stays fully readable however the can is turned on the table. It's the more editorial, fashion-led choice.
Two colourways, tested for recognition. Each layout comes in ivory for bright, daytime cafés and in a reversed deep midnight blue for evening dining and bars. We proved the brand holds up in both before anything went to print.
The tagline on every side. "Designed to be seen" repeats across the top of every face of the can, so whichever way it lands on the table, the brand is there, small and confident.

Partner Co-Branding: Your Venue, Our Can
Aethra's vision is to become "the water serious hospitality spaces choose by default." The fastest way to get there is to let venues make it theirs.
So we built a co-branding system that lets any partner café, restaurant or hotel put its own name on the can. We tested it with a sample partner brand to prove it works.
The decision that made it work was hierarchy. The partner's logo leads, large and in its own colour, on the main face. Aethra steps back to a quieter position, centred low on the front or running vertically up the side, with its star mark. The guest sees the venue first. The trade sees Aethra.
Everything else stays fixed: the flowing pattern, the metallic finish, the ivory and midnight colourways, and the "Designed to be seen" band. That means one template can scale to any number of partners without redesigning the can each time. For a venue, it's a custom product. For Aethra, it's a growth engine.

The Challenge: Be Seen Without Being Loud
The brief contained a contradiction, and we loved it.
On one side, the brand line we wrote was "Designed to be seen." On the other, Aethra's whole philosophy is the opposite of loud: nothing over-branded, nothing that fights the room it's standing in. As the brand puts it, "We are not trying to be the water people talk about. We are trying to be the water that makes everything else on the table look intentional."
So the packaging had to do something most beverage packaging never tries: look beautiful at arm's length on a dinner table, without shouting. It had to sit next to stemware in a fine-dining room and next to a flat white in a café, and feel at home in both.
Then came a practical problem: the can itself. A cylinder is unforgiving. Wordmarks bend, letters disappear around the curve, and anything set too wide becomes unreadable from the side. On top of that, venues would want cans carrying their name, so the system had to make room for a partner without losing Aethra.

Coasters, Merchandise & Brand Collaterals
The table doesn't stop at the can, so neither did we.
Coasters carry the brand onto the table itself: a round ivory coaster with the AETHRA wordmark at the centre, the contour pattern drifting softly behind it, and the star mark and "Designed to be seen" at the base. It's quiet enough to sit under any glass and considered enough to be noticed.
Business cards follow the same restraint: ivory stock, the wordmark set alone with plenty of room to breathe, the pattern trailing off the edge, and the tagline anchored with the star.
T-shirts turn the brand into something people choose to wear. On the front, a small AETHRA mark sits on the chest, with a "Designed to be seen" collar tape running around the neckline. On the back, the flowing pattern is framed like a map, with the co-ordinates of Aethra's Himalayan source at its base: 29°00′N, 83°00′E. It's a quiet nod to where the water begins, built for the staff who serve it and the guests who take it home.
A brand manual to hold it together. It covers the logo system, scaling rules for cans and merchandise, the typography hierarchy, colour and two brand patterns: fine contour lines for packaging and bold topographic curves for social media.
What We Learned
The quietest object in the room can carry the most brand. We didn't make Aethra louder. We made it impossible to ignore by making it belong.
Packaging is product design. The shape of the can decided where the wordmark could live. Designing for the cylinder, not the flat artwork, was the whole job.
Co-branding is a system, not a one-off. Building partner branding as a template makes every new venue a quick win instead of a new project.
